How far is the Flåm Railway from cruise terminal?
This is a post I never thought to write, until I reminded myself that most of the people who visit Flåm are coming for the first time – and often on a cruise ship. And with Flåmsbana/the Flåm Railway being one of the main attractions in town, I guess it’s only natural that cruise visitors want to know how far the Flåm Railway is from the cruise terminal.
The reason I (in the past) have assumed that I didn’t have to write this post is because the answer is luckily super easy: the Flåm Railway is no more than a 5-minute walk from the cruise port/terminal in Flåm.
Side note: If you are visiting Flåm and want to know if there’s a cruise ship on the day of your visit (all though you really should spend more than one day in Flåm), you can check the cruise arrivals list here.

Getting from the cruise port to the Flåm Railway
As I think I have made clear throughout this blog, Flåm is a very small village, and is super walkable. The village center consists of a few hotels, a campground, the station building housing the Flåm visitor center, public toilets and two souvenir stores (Memories from Flåm is my favorite – I actually translated and edited the children’s book they sell there!), a brewery/pub the Flåm bakery a small grocery store and a couple more souvenir stores.
All of this is within a vicinity of 500 or so meters (0,3 miles). To get to the Flåm railway from the cruise port (assuming you already have tickets and don’t need to go to the station to buy them – remember, I always recommend buying tickets in advance, especially in the summers. The Flåm Railway can get fully sold out on some days.
Side note: read my complete guide to the Flåm Railway here!
To get to the Flåm Railway from the cruise terminal, simply leave the ship and take a left turn, following the bay until the end of the water. The train tracks and platform are right there, next to the large, red station building. You truly can’t miss it. And you truly won’t want to miss the beautiful train journey from Flåm to Myrdal.
If you are standing on one of the upper decks as your ship arrives in Flåm, you’ll even be able to see the train tracks and the platform from the ship. It’s not far at all, and won’t take you longer than 5 minutes to walk.

Thank you for that very discrete answer to my question about cruise ships’ ETAs (and sub text – how to avoid them).
I can now reconsider my plans.
