5 Easy Tours from Bergen to Flåm (and the Norwegian Fjords)
Flåm is a must-see for travelers exploring the beauty of Norway. If you are staying in Bergen and are limited on time, I’m sure you’re looking into options of how to see the fjords from the city in just a day. In this guide, I aim to share some easy tour options for accessing Flåm from Bergen.
The convenience and time-saving benefits of these self-guided or guided tours make them a popular choice among tourists. Of course, there are other Bergen fjord tours to consider, such as the Mostraumen one and ones to the Hardanger fjord. But if Flåm is on your list (as it should be), one of these will be perfect.
As a local who frequently travels this route, living in Bergen and hailing from Aurland/Flåm, I can confidently recommend the following tours as the best options to truly immerse yourself in the magic of this scenic journey – if a pre-planned tour is your preferred way of travel.
They are especially perfect if you are flying into the airport in Bergen (one of the closest to Flåm) and are limited on time.
As with all my roundups and lists (such as my guide to all the hotels in Flåm), this is not a normal “top 5” list). Instead, I have carefully selected the 5 best tours for various needs, such as flexibility, cost and sustainability. Whatever is most important for you, I know you’ll find a way to see Flåm that works!

#1 Best for Flexibility: Private Full-day Tour
⭐️ RATING: 5/5 Stars | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 11 hours | ✅ Book it (Summer)! or Book it (Winter)!
When you opt for a private full-day tour, you’re essentially unlocking a world of flexibility and autonomy during your travels. This personalized experience empowers you to craft your day according to your preferences, giving you the freedom to make decisions on the fly.
Whether you’re keen on exploring historical landmarks, indulging in local cuisine, or simply immersing yourself in the culture, a private tour allows you to set the pace and prioritize attractions that align with your interests.
With the ability to choose where you go and how long you spend at each location, you’re in control of creating a memorable and customized itinerary that caters to your unique travel desires.
This tour is available in both the summer and the winter, and will take you from Bergen to Flåm (and back), stopping at noteworthy sights along the way (such as Tvindefossen and Stalheim), whilst also letting you have a say in what to add to the itinerary.
The one drawback to this one is that tickets to attractions such a the Nærøyfjord cruise and the Flåm Railway are not included. This means you’ll have to buy these yourself (but also gives you power over which departures you want to do, and also let you skip either if you prefer). I recommend both if you only have one day in the area though.
“In fifteen years traveling together, this private tour to the Sognefjord region of Western Norway was one of our most memorable and best days that my wife and me have ever had on vacation together.”

#2 Best for Convenience: Self-driven, self-guided tour
⭐️ RATING: 5/5 Stars | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 9-10 hours | ✅ Book it!
This is a super hassle-free tour, that can be tailored to include whatever you want. After all, you’re driving! In that sense, this tour is not too unlike simply renting a car and driving to Flåm. But, the difference is in the ticket options you can add to the tour and the personal touch you get in the planning.
When you book this tour, you can choose how extensive you want your day to be. Whether you want to include tickets to the Viking Village in Gudvangen, the Flåm Railway or none at all – you have the option.
Additionally, they’ll bring the car to you and set you off on your way towards Flåm, making this a more seamless experience than simply renting a car.
If you are traveling with children and want to explore Flåm with your kids, this may be the easiest way to do it. Just keep in mind, as of 2024 you have to pay for parking in Flåm (not a huge inconvenience, and a long time coming, but worth being aware of).

#3 Most Affordable: Group Tour
⭐️ RATING: 4.5/5 Stars | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 11 hours | ✅ Book it!
A group tour is an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers who are keen on exploring the fjords without breaking the bank. Opting for a group tour offers significant cost savings compared to organizing a private excursion, making it the most affordable tour option available.
Despite being cost-effective, group tours ensure that you don’t miss out on experiencing the main attractions around Flåm. By sharing expenses with other travelers, you can enjoy the beauty of the fjords, visit key sights, and make the most of your trip without overspending.
If you are a solo traveler, this can also be a great and safe way to meet other travelers whilst in Norway!
“I’m a solo traveler who wanted to get the most out of my limited time in Bergen and am so happy that I booked this tour! The fjord cruise was my favorite part– it was absolutely stunning. You get to see a LOT in a single day and I always felt extremely safe and like I had enough time at each stop. Would highly recommend!”

#4 Best Sustainable Option: All-electric/Emission-free Tour to Flåm
⭐️ RATING: 5/5 Stars | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 13 hours | ✅ Book it!
Sustainability is huge in Norway. We are actually the country in the world with the most electric vehicles per person (source). Therefore, it should come as no surprise that it is pretty easy to find sustainability-focused tours and ways to travel.
This tour takes you on a similar route as the others, but has the added benefit of being in a fully electric vehicle. Since the fjord cruise chosen is also a fully electric vessel (award-winning, even), this makes this option completely emission-free.
If you love to travel knowing that you’re leaving no trace, this is the tour for you.
“We had the pleasure of traveling with an attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful guide. We really enjoyed it and recommend this excursion to everyone. We had the opportunity to visit so many beautiful places in one day with the comfort of a Tesla trip.”

#5 Best for Seeing the Whole Fjord: Sognefjord Journey
⭐️ RATING: 4/5 Stars | ⏳ TOUR LENGTH: 13 hours | ✅ Book it!
If what you’re seeking is an immersive fjord experience you should consider taking the boat from Bergen to Flåm. This scenic journey is perfect for enthusiasts who can’t get enough of the majestic fjords, as it navigates through the entirety of the stunning Sognefjord, from the ocean all the way to Flåm.
Whether opting for a one-way trip or a return ticket, visitors also have the flexibility of booking a return journey for the following day, allowing them to extend their stay and fully relish the beauty of Flåm.
Whilst this is not so much a tour, and more of a transportation device, it is a really great way to reach Flåm from Bergen, and there is some audio guiding being played on board as you pass picturesque villages and impressive mountains.
“Smooth trip through beautiful fjords and a bit of the sea. Only wish it was longer! Then we connected with the Flåm railway and that was gorgeous too.”
